The Afghanistan Foundation (AF) was founded as a non-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) prior to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, with the mission of helping to educate policymakers and the general public about the nation of Afghanistan, its people, culture and history. Since our non-profit, non-partisan public policy research organization was established, we have endeavored to provide in-depth research and analysis, education, advocacy and help where the need is greatest regarding the nation of Afghanistan and the region.
The Afghanistan Foundation was co-founded and established by Philip Smith and other concerned American and Afghan leaders, scholars and policy experts, including current and former Afghan officials, U.S. government officials, Members of Congress, diplomats, business entreprenuers and community leaders.
The Afghanistan Foundation is concerned and active in addressing issues regarding Afghanistan and the region.
That is why we are especially pleased to work with those who share our commitment to addressing key issues regarding Afghanistan and the region, including public policy, building civil-society, rule-of-law, security, counter-terrorism, humanitarian affairs, economic development, press freedom, human rights and other matters. We strive to help understand Afghanistan, its people, culture and history.
We also seek to assist with research and efforts that assist with developing and restoring the nation of Afghanistan.
The Afghanistan Foundation involves a unique partnership of Afghans and Americans.
